Differences between PP, OPP & BOPP Bags

The material polypropylene, a thermoplastic polymer is widely used in the manufacturing of plastic products, like PP, OPP, and BOPP bags. Although these bags share some similarities in terms of their material composition, they also have some distinct differences that make them suitable for different packaging applications. Here, we will explore the differences between PP, OPP, and BOPP bags.

What are PP bags?

These bags also known as polypropylene bags, are the most basic form of polypropylene packaging. These bags are made by extruding and weaving polypropylene fibers to create a strong and durable material that can be used for a variety of applications. These bags are popular for packaging bulk goods like grains, seeds, and fertilizers because of their high strength-to-weight ratio.

These bags come in various sizes, colors, and designs. They can be laminated or coated to improve their strength and water resistance. These bags are also commonly used for promotional purposes, as they can be printed with company logos, slogans, and other marketing messages.

What are OPP bags?

OPP bags, or oriented polypropylene bags, are made by stretching polypropylene film in two directions to create a material that is stronger, clearer, and more resistant to tearing. OPP bags are commonly used for packaging products that require a high degree of clarity, such as food items, clothing, and consumer goods.

OPP bags are available in a range of thicknesses and sizes, and can be printed with high-quality graphics and images. They are also commonly used for gift wrapping, as they provide a clear and attractive display of the gift inside.

What are BOPP bags?

BOPP bags, or biaxially oriented polypropylene bags, are made by stretching polypropylene film in two directions to create a material that is even stronger and clearer than OPP bags. BOPP bags are highly resistant to moisture, punctures, and tearing, making them ideal for packaging products that require a high level of protection, such as electronics, pharmaceuticals, and chemicals.

BOPP bags can be printed with high-quality graphics and images, and are available in a range of sizes and thicknesses.

Differences between PP, OPP, and BOPP Bags:

Material Composition:

OPP, BOPP, and PP bags are all made from polypropylene, but they differ in the way the material is processed. PP bags are made by extruding and weaving polypropylene fibers, while OPP and BOPP bags are made by stretching polypropylene film in two directions.

Strength and Durability:

The bags of PP are strong and durable, but they are not as strong as OPP and BOPP bags. OPP bags are stronger and more tear-resistant, and BOPP bags are even stronger and more resistant to moisture, punctures, and tearing than OPP bags.

Clarity:

PP bags are not as clear as OPP and BOPP bags. OPP bags are clearer than PP bags, and BOPP bags are even clearer than OPP bags.

Water Resistance:

The bags of PP are not very water-resistant, but they can be laminated or coated to improve their water resistance. OPP bags are more water-resistant, and BOPP bags are highly resistant to moisture.

Printing Quality:

PP bags can be printed with basic graphics and text, but they are not suitable for high-quality printing. OPP and BOPP bags are suitable for high-quality printing, with BOPP bags providing the highest printing quality.

Final words

The  PP, OPP and BOPP bags made available at Anita Plastics are all made from polypropylene and have some similarities, but they differ in material composition, strength and durability, clarity, water resistance, printing quality, and applications. The bags of PP are the most basic form of polypropylene packaging and are commonly used for bulk packaging of goods. OPP bags are stronger and clearer than PP and are suitable for packaging products that require a high degree of clarity. BOPP bags are the strongest and clearest of the three and are highly resistant to moisture, punctures, and tearing, making them ideal for packaging products.
